Circa 1815 – 1825 American wood and gilt mirror with original eglomise painted panel showing the War of 1812 frigate battle between USS Wasp and HMS Frolic on October 17, 1812 in which both vessels were left effectively unmanageable. Frolic surrendered to Wasp, but a few hours later, a much larger British ship overtook Wasp and forced her to surrender. Wasp’s captain, Jacob Jones, was later promoted and appointed to the command of USS Macedonian, which had been captured from the British on October 25, 1812.
