Marine, Folk Art
This is one of the smallest half hull models I have ever had. Although small, it is of a very famous ship. The Henry B. Hyde was built in Bath, Maine in the Chapman & Flint yard by master shipwrights McDonald and Lemond and launched in 1884. The highly profitable 267 foot 2,583 ton full-rigged ship was operated in the California trade until she ran aground and was wrecked in a storm off Cape Henry, Virginia in 1904. All her crew was rescued. She was featured in 4 oil paintings by the famous marine artist John Stobart.
