“The Meet” oil on board of horses and riders assembling before a hunt by John Lewis Brown ( 1829 – 1890 ). Brown was a highly regarded sporting artist born in France to parents of Scottish descent. Circa 1885 Wax gallery seal on back from Durand Ruel, Paris gallery. Provenance : from the collection of Forsyth Wickes, a NYC lawyer who gave his major French furniture and decorative arts collection to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Circa 1885.
